Other sources of funding can be explored through the support provided to the cultural sector by Member States agencies, some International Organisations, Private Foundations and Associations.

These institutions can have different status. Some have a direct link with their national government, others belongs to a more independent category.

Culturesfrance is the agency of the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture and Communications responsible for international cultural exchanges.

The British Council is the UK's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. We build engagement and trust for the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people worldwide.

The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) is the agency of the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation responsible for promoting and implementing the Spanish policy on International Development Cooperation.

The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) is a directorate under the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).qs

The Swedish International Development cooperation Agency (SIDA) is an agency working under the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Danish Center for Culture and Development (DCCD) promotes cultural co-operation between Denmark and the developing countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Africalia was set up in 2001. The association's object is to achieve the goal of sustainable human development, the association will help to promote socio-economic and socio-cultural development and a reinforcement of the social foundations in partner countries as well as create awareness among Belgian public opinion.


The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is composed of 193 Member States. For this specialised United Nations agency, education, social and natural science, culture and communication are the means to a far more ambitious goal : to build peace in the minds of people.

The International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF) comprises 56 Member States and is involved in multilateral cooperation actions for different fields.

The Commonwealth Foundation's Mission is to strengthen civil society organisations across the Commonwealth as they promote democracy, advance sustainable development and foster inter-cultural understanding.

ArtAction, , a Foundation established by the Singapore based investment group "Orient Global", accepts on a permanent basis applications to support arts projects in developing countries. All arts and culture domains are covered and the financial support can go from 30.000 up to 100.000 US$.

The Mondriaan Foundation supports collaboration and exchange between artists. Applications can be submitted by artists' initiatives in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The Arts Collaboratory Programme offers small scale support for cultural entrepreneurship projects run by independent organisations in Africa, Asia and Latin America working in the field of visual art.
